Deaerator -
Provides Continuous, On-the-Fly,
Thin-Film
Resin Degassing
For high-output and high-volume
applications, when batch
tanks can't
provide continuous uninterrupted feed, our Thin-Film Resin Deaerator
(also known as a degasser) supplies precisely heated, agitated and
degassed resins on-the-fly
at up to 40 lbs/min.
Deaerator Benefits (vs. Operating with
a Batch Tank):
- No need to wait for a full batch of prepared resin.
- Deaerator supplies higher quality material. Heat-history
and degradation are
minimized because the deaerator supplies degassed resin on-demand.
- Delivers large amounts of
degassed material with little or no
operator attention,
aside from connecting a new full drum of resin.
- No need to maintain large batches of material at
process temperature.
- Mechanically pumps
degassed material out of the tank (to the
mixing machine)
while it is under vacuum. This eliminates the need to use dry nitrogen gas
as overpressure; to feed degassed material to downstream metering pumps.
Nitrogen gas bubbles can get mixed into the material whenever the agitator
runs too fast.
Deaerator
Description/Operation:
- Constant vacuum draws fresh resin into the
deaerator tank from
the
drum or tote.
- Resin passes through the adjustable orifice on the
automatic inlet valve
and onto the rotating Slinger Disk.
- The Slinger Disk throws material to the inside wall
of the deaerator tank,
creating a thin-film slide of resin down the tank wall.
- Controlled heat (to 285oF) on the
deaerator's sidewall lowers
resin
viscosity and surface tension, while vacuum breaks the air bubbles and
dissolved gasses.
- A positive pressure feed pump, immersed in the
material or mounted
externally (under the bottom outlet valve) delivers
the heated, air-free resin
to your downstream process or to a
precision metering pump on a meter,
mix, dispense machine.
- When the liquid-level probe senses a drop in the
level of resin, the inlet
valve automatically opens and the degassing process is repeated.

Light-Sensing
Vacuum Traps
Eliminate costly vacuum pump rebuilding and cut downtime.
This liquid trap stops foamed resin from flooding the vacuum
pump while degassing. When the glass-tube receiver has just
30ccs of resin inside, the light-beam and reflector sense it, the
valve closes, an alarm sounds and the flood of resin stops.
The receiver (see inset) comes apart four pieces for easy
cleaning. |

Vacuum Pumps
11-, 20-, 55-, 100-CFM and larger are available from APT.
Complete assemblies include a motor-starter, a manual switch
mounted on the control panel, a bleed valve and an analog gauge
on the tank lid, plus plumbing to the tank. An optional electronic
vacuum sensor, mounted on the tank lid with an automatic control
valve, can hold preset vacuum setpoints on material in the tank.
Preset vacuum levels can optionally be entered at the operator-
interface control panel on the meter/mix machine. |

The
Heateroll® - 55-Gallon Drum Heating/Melting Oven
Melts one drum, fast. The combined heating and rotating
action
of the The Heateroll® typically preheats drums 6 to 8 times faster
than conventional "stand-up" drum heating methods. Operates with
ceramic-enclosed infrared heaters. Saves energy and minimizes
thermal degradation of the material. Inset shows the Heated
Compartment, which slides over the drum, in the closed position.
Temperature Range: 90oF to 200oF. Units
are also available with
55-Gallon size drip pans to collect all of the drum's contents in the
event that a drum received in damaged condition leaks.

Note:
Resins typically require precise (± 2°F) temperature-control, agitation and vacuum
degassing to significantly lower the resin's viscosity and surface-tension - to remove all
the air and dissolved gasses - prior to metering, mixing and dispensing into molds.
Various levels of vacuum degassing (down to the micron level) are required for different
applications.
